The evening of Monday March 5th my a/c was converted to On Board Air.
It would have cost more to fix the Air Conditioner that it would have to convert it
to On Board Air. Knowing that I would use the On Board Air much more often than I
would use the air conditioning in the Cherokee, converting was an easy decision to
make. I owe a big thanks to Gary and Hugh. With the use of Gary's shop
and Gary running the operation, Gary and Hugh converted my my a/c to On Board Air in about
2 hours. I have listed the parts that we used below, pictured them and noted where
they can be purchased. I have done my best to write this up and list all parts that
were needed. Hopefully this will give anyone a guideline and help them
determine what parts to start with.

The engine compartment before any work was started on converting the a/c
to onboard air. |
 |
The pipe was pulled off the ???. Oil sprayed all over. You may
want to release the pressure before doing this. |
 |
The air filter, 1/2 female to 1/4 male reducer, in line oiler were
attached to the pipe that had been disconnected. We had to thread the inside of the
pipe to be able to connect the air filter & oiler. |
 |
The inside of the Pressure Switch Box. The blue wire from the lower
right was cut from the air compressor. The upper right is where the wire was
attached that went to the Heavy Duty Toggle Switch that was placed inside the Jeep. |
 |
We attached the 1/2 90degree bent pipe to the fire extinguisher bottle.
A 1/2" male to 1/4" female adapter was then put into place. A
1/4" to 1/4" male adapter was attached to that. The whole line up was then
attached to the Pressure Switch. |
|
The pipe that went from the compressor to the ??? was cut. We
attached a hose from the pipe and connected it to the Pressure Switch. |
|
|
 |
Of the 4 available holes, 3 were used. The other was plugged with
the one of the plugs that came with the Pressure Switch. One to attach the fire
extinguisher, one for the quick disconnect to attach the air hose which had the pipe which
was a 1" long 1/4" male to male ends, and one for the black hose which is the
incoming air from the air compressor using a 1/4 inch thread/nipple and clamps to attach
the hose. |
