Elkhide is nice and soft. It's a bit stretchy. I'm not wild about how bright and orange it, is, but it takes Dye horribly. I once had some Moose, now that was thick and soft. Wish I could get more.

Anyway, I contact cemented the Elk and the inside of the shell, and lined the interior. The Elk was so absorbant I actually had to coat it twice, once to seal it and once as adhesive.

Isn't that pretty?

Still, with everything banging around loosely inside, it needs something more.

With some more 18 Gauge sheet metal, I made a divider. Actually, I had planned this from the start.

You can see, left to right, Spare battery (the original NP-F330), a Cross Filter (The polorizer fits in there too), and two spaces that each hold about half a dozen disks.

And of course, to protect the camera from scratches, the metal got its own leather coating. I didn't allow enough room in the battery clip for the thickness of the leather, so I had to reshape it. I wish I had TWO Mavicas, so I could show you how snugly the camera fits. The case measures 4"x4.5"x7". If I had to do it all again though, I'd make it half an inch taller, because I have to fold the strap very neatly to get the lid to close. An inch wider and it could hold more disks, but that pattern wouldn't fit on the metal.

Sure, it's a bit heavy with all that steel, but I'll never have to worry about X-rays, or any random dropping and banging around, or stray gunshots. I have significantly upped the hit points of my camera. And it's a pretty cool looking box too.

So, how much would you pay for a case like this? Well, at least enough for me to buy a nice sheet metal brake, that's for sure.
